Immel is a German surname. It's a form of the surname Imme (the -l at the end is a diminutive ending in southern Germany) which comes from Old German female first names starting with Irm- (like Irmgard, Irmhild, Irmtraud etc.). The prefix irm comes from the Old High German word 'irmin' which means 'big, mighty, powerful, grand...'.
