Hill is English. It was originally given to a person who lived on a hill. The name is derived from the Old English word (hyll). It's the most popular landscape name, referring to the place where the original bearer lived. Hills large & small were everywhere & cottages were found on top of them, at the foot of them, and at various places on the slope.
