ArchivesMeaning of the name--Tofsrud
I am searching for information on what my maiden last name means. I do know that there aren't that many Tofsrud's in the world as I have been doing a family search. However, I do find that they are from Norway, and some came over here and settled in North Dakota and some are now in the Upper Pennisula in Wisconsin.

Norwegians used to have a second surname that was usually a farm name. This is such a farm name. Rud means 'clearing'. Tof must be short for Tollef, a common first name in Norway. I don't know its meaning though.
