My first thought was that it could be related to the Greek fore name Sophia, meaning "wisdom". Considering the pronounciation of your last name however I started searching and found the English fore name Zavia, derived from Xavier, which itself was derived from the name of the Basque place Etxabier meaning "the new house".
I know it is a long shot, but maybe it helps you.
