dancsak/dansak?
I have heard that it is a "patrician name from northern Hungary." I have no idea of the meaning. I know that Dancsak changed to Dansak around 1900, after the Dancsaks came to America from Hungary (maybe Budapest). Does anyone know anything about this name?

Dancsak is a Hungarian spelling of a Slavic name. Danczak (Dañczak) is a Polish surname, Dancak (Danèák) is Czech or Slovak. My guess is that both names are patronyms, diminutives of either the biblical Daniel, or the Slavic Bogdan ("God gift").
