Can anybody tell me more about the surname Britton

Certainly from the ethnic term Breton, i.e., someone from Brittany, The French province (at present). I thought that English place-names might have contributed, Bretton (two) in Yorkshire, meaning "farm of the Britons", but I can't confirm it.
