The Z ending suggests a diminutive of a Germanic given name, as in Ludwig/Lutz, Konrad/Kunz, Ulrich/Uz. So I'm guessing at a diminutive form of a name such as Engelbert, Engelhardt or Ernst. If so then it's the name of a male ancestor.
