Shayler / Shiler
Anyone know the origin of the surname Shayler? I believe it was known as Shiler in the 1700s. Its from my mother's family who were from Berkshire, England. The family tree has been traced back to 1745 but no-one knows what the name means!

My sources say from Middle English shailer, "a shambler", which I take to mean someone with a shambling gait.
