I guess I should also include that the origin is Calabria, Italy. I've found that different websites say different things....

Websites I've found suggest the name is from the Greek sikla, meaning "bucket", and a ?Siclaro (?Siclario) would have been a fabricator of buckets, perhaps milk pails. Such names date from the time when many Southern Italians spoke Greek rather than Italian; a few still do.
