my surname
I notice that my surname is not listed here. Years ago I consulted a Dictionary of English Surnames someplace and it was shown, possibly in its variant spelling 'Warboys' (there are others as well), as a mangled version of an originally French name, 'Wordebois'. This is of course none other than 'Woodward' with a French rather than English origin.
The dictionary also indicated the presence of the name in England in the 13th century, in its earlier, French form. I have only seen it occur once in fiction (Robertson Davies' Salterton Trilogy).
Hope to see it added to the database.

There is also a place name, Warboys in Cambridgeshire, with Warboys Wood nearby. Perhaps the village occupies the site where the woodward lived.
