Cod(d)a (found in Normandy and England) read on...
Does this relate to the English codde meaning (leather) pouch.
Cod is found in the expression "a Cod of Money" (a good bagful).
Could this be a term for a for a money lender?
Thoughts??

Reaney and Wilson give a possible origin of the surname Codd as an old English word for a bag, and suggest that this could refer to someone with a belly like a bag (?)
They do give other possible explanations.

Belly like a bag? not convinced of that one...
A codd was a leather draw string bag (various in size) that was nearly always was used for either or valued items, hence why i suspect it might be a money lender or man of money?
Thanks for the thought, Jim
