My maiden name Fry, is somewhat common or so it seems. I'm not sure, however, if what I've been told by my family about my name is correct.
I was told it was German.
And that is was originally pronounced VRY in Germany but changed to be "Americanized." I was told it was also spelled Vry, but something tells me that is wrong. I heard another German surname, Wagner, is pronounced Vagner in Germany. Who's to say, Fry wasn't originally spelled Wry?
Does anyone know if this is true - or - better yet - where I could look up the background to verify whether or not it's true?
