Hey, I posted a while ago about some surnames I was looking for the etymology for. I got this response
"Shover is explained on the same website (
www.ancestry.com) as being an American version of the Dutch name De Schouwer, an inspector of weights and measures."
I was wondering if there was some other place I could find information on this name, because my family wasn't Dutch, they were French. I'm not sure if there would be a different meaning for my name. My family says that all they know is that that part of my family were French-Canadians who moved to the U.S. after marriage.
