McCormack
This was my maternal grandmothers maiden name. I was always led to believe this was a Scottish name, but the only name in this database that is close is McCormick , which it says is Irish.
So are they entirely different names, or the same origin with some spelling variation?

Thankyou both for your helpful replies :)
You'll find the origin of these two variants at http://www.ancestry.com/facts/mccormack-name-meaning.ashx
Nicole,
This is definately a spelling variation. I have McCormack/McCormick in my Lester line and their name is seen spelled several different ways. I cannot be sure that this is the case for your ancestor though. Depending on where they lived the name could have evolved from it's original version based on how it was interpreted by census takers etc. Sometimes our later ancestors didn't know the origin of their name and passed down erroneous information. I guess what I want to tell you is not to get stuck on spelling because it's very misleading.
