Meaning of Pietak

Hi! I'm trying to find out the meaning of my last name. I don't know if it's been Americanized from when my great-grandparents came in at Ellis Island from Poland.

The closest I can find is what is posted in the surname list of Polish last names: "Piatek", which apparently means "Friday" in Polish.

I've found other people (online) with the last name of Pietak, but I can't seem to find the meaning of it.

Also, does anyone know the real Polish pronunciation? My family pronounces it like "pee - tack" (long e as in "greet" and long a as in "cat") but I would like to know the real/official pronunciation of Pietak, if anyone knows it.

Can you help me, please? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey! This is old and you probably won't see it but im a pietak! Polish and pronounced like pee tack. My Family has told me is was modified from pietakowski. I wonder if we're related! Hope you see this.

My last name is Pietak! We pronounce it pee tack as well and I was told it was shortened from Pietakoskswi from polish decent. This is all I know! I live in America if that helps.

According to Hoffman's Polish Surnames: Origins and Meanings, Piętak is derived from pięta 'heel' though it's hard to figure how someone could have acquired such a nickname.
