LaDuske / Duncombe
Hello... my family's last name is Dunks, which my mother always told me came from a French or Alsatian last name, 'La Duske', which was changed when my great-great etc. grandfather immigrated to the US. However, I have not been able to find this name in any databases so far... granted, I have only looked on the internet and not much farther. But then, we heard from the owner of an Irish shop specializing in shields / coats of arms that our name *was* in his database, as a decendant of the Irish last name Duncombe. Our family is also Irish, but on my mother's side. However, Dad's side contains Scottish and English blood, so maybe Irish got mixed in at some point... My question is, has anyone ever ran into either name, LaDuske or Duncombe? Or Dunks? Any theories on where it came from? Thanks!
