i'm trying to find out the meaning and origin of the surname 'kuilan' i think it's origin is either french or english; but not sure. we, on the other hand, are puertorican! it'd be great if someone had info...thx!!!

How about Irish? It looks Irish, maybe an adaptation of Quillan, Keelan, Quinlan? Wikipedia has an article on the Irish in Puerto Rico, here -

One of the surnames mentioned is Quinlan, but no Kuilan. The letter K is a mystery though. Still there are the Cuban Kindelans of Irish origin.
