Italian Surnames
I need help trying to figure out what the Italian spelling of 'YALLUM' is. There are no 'Ys' in the Italian alphabet, so I'm stuck. My Great-Grandparents came to the states in 1905 from Maierata, Italy (a small town/village in southern Italy). His name was Emanuel and her name was Anna. My Mom said that Emanuel had the Italian spelling put on his grave marker. After he died Anna had the spelling changed to the American spelling (YALLUM). I asked my Great-Aunt (Emanuel and Anna's daughter) if she knows the correct spelling, but she doesn't remember what it was (she was born in 1925 and the baby). She can't read Italian, but she can speak it. Can someone please help me out with this little problem? Thank you.
