… found in Northern France. Any ideas? Latin foedus "ugly" or "contract"?

It is most probably a French form of Fode a regional german
surname beared in the nearby german "Land" of Baden Wurtemberg.
The origin of this German surname is not clear: a local variant of FAUDE?
