SAQUI Surname: SAQUI/Saguy/Shaki/Sachi/Sciaky
The SAQUI surname appears in my Family Tree, and I understand the origin to be Spanish/Portuguese.
My Dutch SAQUI ancestors were Sephardim in Amsterdam, mid-1700s; and I have been told that they arrived there from Livorno.
A SAQUI descenant in UK writes, "Bevis Marks records seem to be indicating that SAQUI is a derivative of DE SOUZA".
Is SAQUI a derivation of DE SOUZA??
Seeking origin and derivations, to 1800.....
Greatly appreciate all information and assistance !

Hi,
My paternal surname is De Souza, I have a Sephardic origin proven by a genealogical trail, but in the collateral branches to the surname Souza, I have not yet been able to prove that my patrilineal line is Sephardic, but I have used paternal DNA research and everything indicates that my YDNA occurs in some Sephardic Jewish men. I would like to know more about Sakki and Souza's relationship.
Best Regards,
Fernando Souza.

Hi Ann,
I am currently trying to find out more about my family line. My father's father was a Leon Sciaky, born in what was Salonica, Turkey, but is now Thessaloniki, Greece. I would love to know more about the name "Sciaky", and all of the variants you listed were really helpful! I realize this is almost 15 years after you sent out your inquiry. Are you still at this email? And did you ever find out more about the name?
Thank you!!

According to Jewish Family Names and Their Origins: An Etymological Dictionary, Sciaky along with Sciaki, Saki, Chaki are derived from Jacob whose origin you'll find at tinyurl.com/y7lqukh8. You can also find out more about your ancestor Leon at tinyurl.com/yc97hxc8.
The Sephardic name Shaki is normally derived from Isaac.
