Harrassowitz
What is the origin and meaning of the surname Harrassowitz?
It's a Jewish family, and it's from Eastern Europe. Probably the same name as Harasovic.

The closest I could find is from a Russian language site. Haras is a variant Garaz which may be related to Gerasim which means "venerable" ...just a shot at it ...

I think you may have solved it. Gerasim = Hersh (or Gershon). Hershowitz is fairly common.
Thanks a lot.
