Hi all. I'm curious, what is the meaning of the Slavic surname Meshcheriakov (Meshcheriakova)? In Cyrillic it is spelled Мещеряков/Мещерякова. Thanks in advance!
One source gives Meshcheriak as the name of a Russian-based Turkic or Tatar tribe. However, I wonder if this refers to the Meshchera tribe, whose language is Finno-Ugrian, i.e., related to Finnish, etc., and not Turkic.
