ArchivesSurname: Richland
Would love to include some additional info on the name "Richland" but have nothing...nada. Been all over the internet...no ethnic background or derivative of any other name. Closest thing is maybe a former slave/freeman migrated to what is now Wisconsin. Does anyone have a clue??

If you poke around the FamilySearch website, you'll find that the bearers of the name Richland who came from Russia (tinyurl.com/m2o4j9c) and Poland (tinyurl.com/kcrv6uu) were almost certainly Jewish while those from Germany were not (tinyurl.com/mgjfwqq). This is pretty clear just by looking at their given names. Richland is obviously an alteration of the original surname but I have no idea what that was.
