Pronunciation of the surname Chardin
I know it's French. I've heard it like "char-dun" but a Canadian friend of mine calls it "char-dan". Which is right, or are both right? Rate them!Masculine names: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/129229/99684Feminine names: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/129229/99818

They're both wrong since the last syllable doesn't contain the consonant /n/ but the nasal vowel /ɛ̃/ in European French and /ẽ/ in North American French (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_phonology#Nasal_vowels).

Yup, I just didn't know how to write that nasal sound (: Thanks for the information, French surnames always confuse me!
