Yes. My newset idea is to take the the whole -golf as the outcome of -wolf (with some french influence, where Germanic W became a (hard) G, like in Guillaume [=Wilhelm]). Then, Brin can be a reflex of BRUN (Brown) or BRYN (armor, protection). But without historical data, this is only a hypothesis.
