Zocholl
Hi!
This is my surname and I was always interested in the meaning and origin of it. I'm Polish and (besides my family of course) I didn't meet anyone with this surname. My dad supposes that it's Swedish, but I know that in Swedish the letter "z" is almost not used and "ch" too. Do you know anything about this?
Thanks! :)

My grandfather's last name was Zocholl. His parents, my great-grandparents came to the U.S. (Black Creek, WI) from Austria, prior to WWI. The town they were from in Austria became part of Poland after the reorganization following WWII. The last name Zocholl is of German or Austrian origins, not Swedish. It's most prevalent in Germany today.

Zocholl is found in Germany (tinyurl.com/o4a36yh) and Poland (tinyurl.com/onf9jy6). My impression is that it's a Germanized form of a Polish name but that's about as far as it goes. According to the information at tinyurl.com/nshmqfu, the American Zocholls had German-speaking ancestors.
