Meagher/Maher
Hi
I was watching a clip on You Tube of the old 1980s series Young Talent Time and one of the children that wrote in was called "Noelle Maher". I thought the surname was spelled Meagher but pronounced Maher. Is this just a case of a family changing the spelling to make things easier?

They're just two different anglicizations of the Irish name Ó Meachair derived from meachar 'majestic'.
