-jen (also spelled -gen or -chen) is a German diminutive ending (making things smaller and more likeable).
While Wold is indeed a low German word for forest, it is not necessarily the source of the name. Much more likely is the Germanic name element wald "to rule, to lead" also present in the given name [Walter].
