Re: Last name Cantu started in Italy.
I also did a DNA search it showed 17 percent Jewish background. I went to Israel and found the name Cantu at the place where st Peter denied the Lord. The sign read, Saint Peter in GalliCantu. The meaning is where the Rooster sang. I also found out the dictionary says canturiar is a family of singers. All my family is musically blessed. Hope this helps. Shalom.

After doing an extensive research, I found the last name Cantua or Cantu originally in my family tree, we are from Sonora, and the oldest family branch in Mexico, and probably the only one known to have immigrated to Mexico during the colonial times are the descendants of Giuseppe Cantu who was born in Lombardy Italy , and married Maria del Rio De La Cerda, there is a high change that the Cantu family was Jewish since del Rio was a Jewish family, and the descendants of Giuseppe all married known Crypto Jews of Monterrey, all the original families Treviño, Gonzales, Morales, De La Garza, Cantu, Garcia, Montemayor, Carbajal, Cantu, Villareal, and others are Jewish ancestry and we are one family, you can find all this information on the web page of the Jewish Genealogy. Shalom brothers

Wow, that only confirms that my family came from Jewish roots which we always suspected. Thanks for posting that information.

Thank you so much for the information! I am a Follower of Yeshua as well and your research has given me confirmation on my possible Jewish heritage.
