Grote
Has anyone ever heard of the surname Grote before? Is it Germanic or something?
Replies
I’ve heard of “de Grote” which literal translation is “the big” but it means “the great”, see Hugo the Great.
It is Low German (the High German cognate is Groß) and has the meaning "big, great".
