I can't find this name in any of my books. My guess would be: from AEGIDIUS.
Checking the telephone directory, I find most of the (rather few: 45) Gilkas in the east of Germany.

There are more of the name in Poland: 334 who spell it Gi³ka, and 54 who spell it Gilka. Bydgoszcz, once ruled by Prussia, is a stronghold of both versions. The ending gives it a Slavic look, but Polish or Sorbian?
