i actually have 2 middle names and 3 surnames!
i am portuguese and, normally in portugal you have the mother's surname and the father's surname - the latter being your last name. very frequently - actually, most of the time - the surname of the maternal and paternal grandmother is also given to the baby.confusing?not really:
isabel margarida(my middle names)tranquada (my maternal grandmother's surname)gomes (my mother's last name)de ornelas(my father's surname).hope this helps!
