Oosterom, I believe, means something like 'eastern place'
Greek names are usually patronymic and the ending often suggest where their origins are. I found one site the suggested that the -is ending originated in Crete.
The root word was harder to find. One possibility may be that it comes from wolf = ëýêïò, ãõíáéêïêáôáêôçôÞò
lykos, gynaikokataktitis
But this is just a guess ...
