What can you tell me about this name? My ex was polish and this is his last name and is after information on it

It looks like Silvester with the common Polish -ak ending. This would mean belonging to, or related to, Silvester. In the original Polish it would be spelt with a W instead of a V.

It certainly looks like it contains the Latin root "sylvanus" meaning woodland ...the ending is probably just a diminutive ...
