"Dorf" definetely means "village" in German, not "town" and not "swamp" either. The "midden"-part probably means (as you say) "middle of", but it could also refer to a village in the middle of whatever, maybe between two cities, in the middle of nowhere or maybe even of a swamp …

thank you Andy. That does make sense. I'll have to guess what it means and hope it means "between cities"--sounds nicer that the swamp theory. Cheers,
