The previous comment about Francisco Franco "saving" Spain is not the whole story, nor entirely factual. Francisco Franco, former Prime Minister of Spain, is regarded as a monarchist, a dictator, a totalitarian / authoritarian, and a fascist. He employed the use of labor and concentration camps, and imprisoned and/or executed political opponents; he is responsible for tens – hundreds of thousands of deaths of Jews, Blacks, Romani people, Protestant Christians, homosexuals, and many others. While Spain was neutral during WWII, he personally supported the Axis powers during WWII and is said to have admired Hitler and Mussolini. Although post-war Spain was economically prosperous under him, his legacy as a Spanish leader is overall shadowed by political repression, rape and death, war, and other controversies.

The Italian (and I am pretty sure Spanish and Portuguese) pronunciation of "Franco":FRAHN-KohRoll your "R." "A" as in "Father." The "C" creates a hard "K." "O" as usual, "Oh." [noted -ed]
