Prince Vladimir (Владимир) Nikolayevich (Николаевич) Orlov (Орлов), 1868-1927, part of the Orlov family, was one of Tsar Nicholas II's closest advisors, and between 1906 and 1915 headed the Tsar's military cabinet. Orlov competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, in equestrian events.
Famous bearers include Alexei Grigoryevich Orlov (1737-1807), (Russian: Алексей Григорьевич Орлов), a Russian soldier and statesman, who rose to prominence during the reign of Catherine the Great. Another is his brother, Prince Grigory Grigoryevich Orlov (1734-1783), (Russian: Князь Григорий Григорьевич Орлов) the favourite of Catherine the Great of Russia and the leader of the coup which overthrew Catherine's husband Peter III and installed Catherine as empress.
