Meaning & History

From the title used by ancient British chiefs when called to lead other chiefs, derived from Old Welsh penn "head, chief" and dragon "dragon", used figuratively as "commander, war leader". This was an epithet of the legendary King Uther, who was the father of King Arthur. A famous bearer of the name is Australian animator Lachlan Pendragon (1996-).
