Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856–1915) was an educator, author, reformer, and orator, the first president and principal developer of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (now Tuskegee University), and between 1895 and 1915 one of the most influential spokespersons for Black Americans.
