“Zhang” is pronounced like “jahng” as “zh” in Mandarin Chinese is pronounced like a throaty “j” and not “ch”. (This is my married surname, by the way.)
Yingying Zhang (章莹颖) is a visiting scholar in the United States from China, who has not been seen since she got into a car at a bus stop on the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign campus on June 9, 2017. The FBI arrested and charged Brendt Allen Christensen, a Champaign resident and former physics graduate student at the university for kidnapping her.
Very common in China! Probably the most common! I love it for a guy or a girl. (Actress Ziyl Zhang from Geisha and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Great actress!)
It is a very ancient Chinese name. It is believed that the first Zhang name was given by Yellow Emperor, the legendary Chinese sovereigns and culture heroes 5000 years ago, to his fifth son-- Hui.
