Meaning & History

Originally an English name, Foland is actually a variant of the name Fowler (as in bird-catcher). Most migrating to Ireland, other Fowlers/Folands first came to the Americas in 1622; John Fowler.
The 17th Century coat-of-arms is a blue and gold shield topped by a knight's helmet, decorated by golden lions, and the Motto is 'Sapiens qui vigilat', translated as 'He, who watches, is wise.'
