Meaning & History
Means "from Andalusia" or "from Spain", derived from the region of Spain called Andalucía, once called Al-Ándalus (a classical Arab name for the Iberian Peninsula). The Peninsula (Roman Hispania) was ruled by the Moors (Maghrebine Berbers) for approximately 800 years and occupied almost the entire and later diminished portions of the Iberian peninsula until they were completely expelled from the peninsula in 1492.
