[Opinions] Gabriella....
Okay, almost all of you said that you like Gabriella better. And this is actually the name that we have been calling the baby since we found out it was a girl. Everyone calls her Gabriella. Or they all call her by one of her 2 nn's. yes she already has 2 nn's Gabby and Bella. Most people cal her Gabby including me and my husband but a few people call her Bella. i like having nn's, but don't you think it will get confusing if so many people call her so many things? We are still up in the air about naming her Gabriella for sure, we are kind of waiting to see her (hopefully soon with all these contractions) and make our decision then(either Gabriella or Makenzie)....just wondering what you thoughts are on all of this...
Thanks

I love Gabriella without nns, but Bella is pretty and Gabby is not bad. Mackenzie is ugly, trashy and boyish (means "son") to me though.

Go with what you love ....(m)
Of course there is compromise involved with one's partner. lol :b
But we don't know you, and it's great to come and ask people's opinions but take them all with a grain of salt. Just because WE don't love a name doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. I like Gabriella, but it's not a favorite. Though I like just Ella, and I think it's a cute nn for Gabriella (or Ellie), but Gabby is cute too. And I do like Gabriella/Gabriela better than Gabrielle, for some reason. However, it's YOUR baby and I hope you'll go with your heart. If that means she'll be named Mackenzie, then so be it! It's not a sin to have a daughter named Mackenzie (even though you might think so if you hang around here enough, LOL!...btw, no I don't like the name Mackenzie, but again--It's not my baby! :P).
Good luck, whatever you decide. :)

Hi Amber, here are my $.02 on the subject.
First of all, Gabriella Christine is lovely. It's timeless. It has it all over Makenzie (or the other names you mentioned). I have a special dislike of Makenzie. Not only is it incredibly trendy and is the poster child of the surname-as-first name trend, it means "son of Kenneth." When I had my last daughter, my husband picked out Anna Mackenzie. He was just in love with that name. I wanted to name her Caroline, however, no one but me liked it. I knew that the Mac/Mc prefix meant "son of," but our baby name book (Lansky) said Mackenzie meant "child of the wise leader." I thought I could live with it and it did make my husband happy. It wasn't until I made a friend online from Scotland that I learned what Mackenzie really means. Even my husband was swayed and we ended up changing her name to Anna Caroline when she was two years old.
The point I'm making is to make sure you love your child's name and not to let yourself be influenced by what everyone else thinks. That's the mistake I made. In my heart, my daughter is still Caroline. I mean, I'm happy to have finally included Caroline in her name, but I still have regrets. Can you live with Gabriella and not have regrets? Would your husband be willing to let you choose a name you truly love with your next child?
Oh, and one more thing: I wouldn't be concerned with ethnicities. My name is Elena. I am not Spanish, Italian, Russian, Greek, etc., I'm mainly English, Native American and Dutch, however, my name suits me perfectly. If I were you, I'd focus on a name that I love. BTW, I like the nn Gabby. I know many don't, but I think it's sweet.
Hope this helps.

I know that Makenzie means son of kenneth, but all books now say daughter of a wise leader and I'm okay with that.
really i think what will happen is she will be born and we will take one look at her and say she looks like a .......and that will be her name and that will be the name i love.
thank again and I think Anna Caroline is a beautiful name.

Go with Gabriella. It's far less trendy and much more substantial than Makenzie, and moreover won't date your child to the late 1990s-mid-2000s; Gabriella won't be 2086's nursing home equivalent of Bertha or Gertrude, like Makenzie undoubtedly will. Also, Gabriella's actually spelled correctly, unlike Makenzie.
Misspelling Mackenzie as Makenzie with the idea that taking the C out takes out the "Mac- means 'son of'" doesn't work. It just makes the name look even more super-trendy in addition to it looking horribly misspelled to me. Mackenzie means "son of Kenneth", period.
EDIT: Rewrote first part to include datability of Makenzie.

The other probelm I have...
Is that Gabriella is kinda getting popular around here...not that I care about popularity, but it's popular with the hispanic and Indian community, and my daughter is not hispanic or indian...do you think that is a probelm??? I seriously doubt it is a probelm, but I was just wondering what you thought.

Why in the world would that be a problem?
The name is not, and never has been, unique to Hispanics or Indians. I can understand being a bit leery of naming a child something that screams a completely different ethnicity, but I find this question ridiculous.
In all honesty, I don't see what the dilemma is at all for you. You call the baby Gabriella. Everyone else calls the baby Gabriella. You like the name Gabriella. Why don't you just use it and be done with it?

I don't like the name Gabriella but everyone else does. ilike Makenzie better. Or Teagan, Tatum, Grace, Kaia, Kayia, or Micaiah. That is the probelm. And I live in a largely hispanic community, not that it matters, that people would get her named confused, I was jsut wondering if most people associated Gabriella with hispanics?
Teagan is a boy name to me, Tatum is very ugly, Grace is pretty but common, Kaia is cute, Kayia is trashy, Micaiah is a boy onle name today. :)

Um, I don't, and I don't think there would be anything wrong if someone did
For someone supposedly so open-minded, you seem to be making quite a fuss over having your daughter mistaken as Hispanic. (btw, Hispanic should be capitlized, its a proper noun)

It's ridiculous to think of it as a problem.
I don't think having many nicknames is a problem, as long as it's OK with the person being called the nicknames. I know people who go by a different nickname per person, mainly because each person planned out the nickname. I dislike this, as I think nicknames should not be planned out, but should be left up to the child. I'm sorry if this offends you, but I think it's absurd to use a nickname before the child is even born. Sorry to be blunt.

Kids don't get confused by being called multiple names. We called my little sister Ruby, Vesta, VesVes, Boo, and a million other things, and it never mixed her up--she knew (and knows) perfectly well that her name is Ruby.
Gabriella is ten million times better than Mackenzie, and Gabby is a great nickname. Bella, on the other hand, is the sound a bullfrog makes when it croaks--NOT attractive at all, IMO.
Gabriella nn Gabby is my vote. I like Gabriella Christine a lot.

My niece is name Gabriella, and is called Abby.
I do not like Gabby, because its a word that means to talk too much. It has too much teasing potential for me. Bella is cute, but I can't understand how one gets it from Gabriella. Ella is cute, and I lovef that.
Don't name the poor child Mackenize. I understand that you don't care about meanings, but she may not end up like you.

My parents dog is named Abby.....
Her nn will be Gabby if we name her Gabriella. Most people get past the "talk too much image" Plus if she's anything like her Mom she will talk a lot....I like teh cheerleader, popular, happy, bubbley, type of personality, and type of name so I'm not worried about that.
I am worried that Gabby and my parents/family dog's name will be confused...Abby and Gabby....
You get Bella out of Gabriella rather easy
ga B ri ELLA =BELLA...but after carrying her around for 9 months I feel that Bella doesn't fit her as much as Gabby, and we've called her Gabby for so long...
But Gabriella is my husbands favoite name..not mine..I just don't think Gabriella fits with us..Gabby does more than Gabriella...oh, I'm so confused...

Do you realise how ridiculous and so-not-ready-to-raise-a-child you sound? Guess what.... you cannot mold your child to have a certain personality. Good lord. Your child can be a book worm, she can have brains instead the ability to do flips. She can be original versus trendy. She can be anything that you don't characterize yourself as. It's really really sad and disturbing what you said.

If you read my whole thing and didn't judge me, you would see that I said IF she is anything like her Mom.. not that I expect her to be just like me. The way you and a few other people sound around here you would only be happy if I let my daughter name herself when she was "of age" because how could I pick a name for her...And how dare me like names that are popular or trendy.
I came on here to ask about a name NOT to be attacked about being a Mother....for goodness sakes you don't even know me...Do you judge everyone this quickly?

Amberlyn / Amber Christine / whoever you are, I'm mildly surprised at you (though perhaps I shouldn't be, after re-reading your old posts...). You were been extraordinarily offensive and intolerant in the past and didn't apologise for it, and now you come back and seemingly play off some our members' forgetfulness and our other members' newness to subtly re-intergrate yourself back into our community?
Yes, we're forgetful sometimes and some of us may be new, but one of us will always eventually figure out what's going on; you were quite foolish imo to come here again and deliberately break the rules by posting under more than one posting name without telling us... but perhaps you were more foolish to draw attention to yourself in the first place by being stubborn and immature, for you probably could've kept the charade going a little longer if you hadn't thrown mini-temper tantrums over your beloved Makenzie.
I doubt people here will forgive you, for you already burned most of your bridges way back in September 2004. And the few remaining bridges left have now been burnt through your deliberate act of lying through deceit. I'm reporting this to Mike C., mostly for the MPDism involved, but also for your behaviour here. That's all the action I'm going to take for now, but I'll continue to watch for developments if need be.
