Which name would you choose as a sister's name for Gemma Rose?
Gianna Mae (in keeping with the Italian theme...)
Zara Mae (LOVE young British royalty)
Eliza Mae (Don't prefer Elizabeth, too traditional for us)
(BTW-The "Mae" is my husband's grandmother, so it is a non-negotiable, because Rose was MY grandmother and I gave it to our firstborn)
And also, would you pronounce Gianna with two syllables (Zhoh-nuh)or three (Gee-on-nuh)? And would the non-name-savvy general public pronounce it with two or three?

I like both Zara and Eliza but definitely not Gianna, they are too similar. Also, until I read what you had written at the bottom I would have pronounced Gianna as it is writeen Gee-AHN-uh (to rhyme a bit with banana) like Gianni etc....
My vote is for Eliza Mae-I think it is very pretty and goes with Gemma Rose.

I like Zara best, and Gemma and Zara sounds very British. I've never liked Gianna.

Gianna, in correct Italian, is pronounced JAN-uh. Definitely NOT Zhoh-nuh or Gee-on-nuh. Don't argue with me on this, I studied Italian at university :-)
Gemma and Gianna are far too close, they'd never know which one you were calling for. Gemma and Zara or Gemma and Eliza work fine. My vote is for Zara.

I'd go with Eliza Mae.
I used to dislike Eliza, but it's grown on me. I think it has a lot of spunk, and goes well with Gemma Rose.
My next pick is Gianna Mae (I disagree that they're too close for sisters-- unless you're pronouncing Gianna Zhoh-nuh, where I could see the confusion might come in. But I pronounce it Gee-on-nuh, as I think most of the general public will, at least in the states). Zara Mae isn't bad, though. Just not a favorite.

Also the middle name Mae is really nice. My little cousin Caroline or as she is usually called Callie, that's her middle name too.

I believe that I'd go with Eliza Mae or Zara Mae. Gianna is a bit close to Gemma and I don't really care for it. Also if you wanted you could spell Zara, Zahra, or Zahrah.

GIANNA -- I would pronounce Gianna as "John-a" (as the Italians do) or "gee-AH-na." Either way, it's too similar to Gemma. :-(
ZARA -- This has always seemed gimmicky, to me. Sarah Mae, nn Sadie, has a jaunty, retro-chic appeal that you might like.
ELIZA -- This one gets my hearty approval. It has an energetic bounce to it. Classic, but not stuffy. Terrific.
If you want to stick with the Italian theme: Antonina (Nina), Antonella (Nell, Ella), Emilia (Mia or Mimi), Maia (Roman goddess and a way to honor grandmother at the same time)?
On the "English royals" theme, how about Annabel? That's what Prince Andrew wanted to call Beatrice. (BTW, Queen Mary, George V's consort, went by the nn May/Mae. I love it and would even like it as a fn.)
