Although I know that was a dig, I kind of agree with
Sabrina here.
Siri, I know you have seen my surname before and to me it seems easy- it is pronounced exactly as it is spelt.
My first name is
Elise. Easy IMO. No one ever pronounces it correctly. Ever. And even when I correct them it is like the majority of people like their pronunciation better or something so they just keep saying it that way, even minutes after I correct them.
And people call me
Elsie,
Elly,
Louise,
Eloise,
Ellen, even
Elinor so often I cannot count. I work in a call centre and answer the phone "Welcome to *company* this is
Elise how can I help you today?" and they usually say "Oh
Louise is it (or whatever name they think it is)?" I'll correct them and say it's
Elise and straight away they go "Okay my problem is Louise....etc etc"
I really think most people just don't care that much. Meanwhile, my brother's friend
Caoimhe never has a mispronunciation after she corrects them the first one or two times...but I think that is because the alternative is calling her COW-M-HE and
Keeva seems much easier!
