In General:
I don't see any differene then using name(s) from anything else a person likes (movies, authors, music, et). I don't see why people need to use "dumb" or "stupid" to describe something someone really likes whatever it may be. I think you can say what you need to say about the subject even being blunt about it, but in a tactful way. You don't need to go out of your way to be harsh to someone's tastes just because one doesn't like it (IMO). This is a huge pet peeve of mine.
The person might like
Buffy the Vampire Slayer what's so bad or wrong about that? The parents might be a
Buffy fan then again thy might not be that's just my two cents on the overall subject.
About the Name:
I like the name
Buffy I'd never use it in general, but as a NN it's cute.
Willow makes a nice middle name but it's way overused.
