[Opinions] Sirius
As every parent, I think the bame we picked for our baby girl is an original one. WE didn't know if the baby was going to be a boy or a gir, but we decided eithe way, the name HAD to be Sirius. Our little one is called after the brightest star is the night's sky, because she is the brightest thing that happened to us!

My black kitty is named Sirius Black. Most people associate the name with the Harry Potter character. And it's not the easiest name to pronounce, many people think it's more pronounced like the name Cyrus. But I just don't see the name on any child boy or girl, it's too.. well... serious. It just doesn't sound like a name people would ever use, I do like the nickname Siri. That's what I call my cat.

You already named her Sirius. Ho boy. Nice sentiment but I agree with the others that it's a boys name (us ending) What about Siria or just plain Siri?

you can't be Sirius! [m]Just kidding, couldn't resist..Siri'd be a cute nick for a female Sirius.. 2 things to prepare your comebacks for if you seriously do this.."Sirius" sounds just like "serious," and Sirius is the "Dog Star."As well, the brightness idea is sweet, but will seem quite corny to many. Good luck.- chazda ;-)

LMAO . . .As well as being those things, the HMS Sirius was the flagship of the First Fleet, the fleet which brought the first permanent European settlers to Australia. The "are you Sirius?" thing is a standard primary school joke in Australia, after learning about the First Fleet :-D. The fact that the 2IC ship was the Porpoise, which can be confused with "purpose", makes it all the merrier!

I like the idea behind the name, but I strongly feel Sirius is a male name because of the -us ending. Also, the Harry Potter character Sirius Black put the name in spotlight, so it might not be the best choice for a girl.
