[Opinions] Re: WDYTO Evangeline?
in reply to a message by Sweetkit
The first time I heard this name was in high school from an OLD song, I think from the 70's or 80's. It was a classic rock song, and all I remember about the song is the chorus: "Evangeline, Eeeevvvvaaaaneline - think I waaaaant you."
My first impression was a little too elaborate sounding, and too many religious overtones.
I still think it is too long, and I don't always like names ending in "LEEN." It doesn't seem as religious anymore because it is growing in popularity the last I checked. It's still not a favorite of mine. I like some long names because they have cute nicknames that don't hold up on their own, but Eve and Eva hold up as full names to me, and therefore it is unnecessary to lengthen them.

Evangeline by Matthew Sweet
Gosh I feel old, the song you're talking about is Evangeline by Matthew Sweet. It was released in 1991.
That song is the reason I like the name Evangeline. But I like the nickname Evan for it.
