[Facts] Good Surname Sites
I know this is not behind the name's surname section, but I don't have an account there. Does anyone know any good, free sites other than behind the name for surname nationalities? I tried ancestry.com, but that did not give me nationalities for the names I wanted. I want something expansive that doesn't just give top 1000 surnames. If anyone knows right off the bat, does anyone know what nationality the names Kazanjian and Kulhanjian are from, or could make an educated guess? Thanks

As far as I know......you can post to the Behind The Surname board with your regular BtN account (so, you would just sign in with your bunnyfunny username and password).

I'm sorry, but I'm confused by your comment about the Behind the Name surnames board. Since when have you had to have an "account" to access it? It doesn't have a lot of surnames listed yet, but as far as I know you can both look at the surnames it does have, and ask questions on its discussion board, for free.As the "Help" section on the surname board says:Logging in is optional for most users. However some domains are restricted (notably AOL), meaning you need to sign up for a username/password before you can post.If even "logging in" is optional for most users, why do you think you need an "account"? :) My educated guess about Kazanjian and Kulhanjian was that they were Armenian surnames, and that seems to be correct, as you find both of them in the following list of donors to the Armenian Church of America. The huge majority of Armenian surnames end in -ian.http://www.armenianchurch.net/involvement/2002/donors/1i-k.html

Sorry for the confuzzelation. What I meant was that although I could access the surnames site, I put the two names in the search box, and they were not in the data base. I needed an account to post a message on the board, asking people about the names' nationalities. Thanks for the Armenian Church link.

You neede a website to find out the origins of names ending with -ian? That`s kinda scary.

This site has some surnames:
