Trendy? No. I've never heard of it as a name before, just as a state. I'm inclined to think that any name thats of a place is generally a no-no. But thats just me.

Isn't a good name?
I think a lot of places were named after people too.
I think place names are fine as names myself; as good a reason for a name as any.
I quite like Montana myself!
